The idea here is not to replace or denigrate fanfic or fanart, the idea is simply to get people connected and exposed, where people can encourage each other and share ideas and tips.

And hopefully, some people will end up making comics of some kind together.

Very exciting.

I don’t want to butt in, but my advice is start small, beware of scope creep, be aware of the medium you are using, and take full advantage of the viral nature of Tumblr.

Starting small is a good idea. Maybe we could try some restrictions? Like, an artist posts a drawing of a character he or she created and asks for some ideas for complete stories only one ten pages long? Or a writer describes a plot for a ten page story in five bullet points looking for artists to work with to take a crack at it?

What do you think? Do some interesting restrictions lower the bar to participation, or will this work better as more of a bulletin board?

My take on it is this:

Most major comic book companies, when offering new opportunities to writers, usually go for eight-page tryout stories in their anthology books. I think writers should have eight pages of story (that can stand on its own) for interested artists to check out. Other companies also are interested in having that amount of completed artwork and scriptwork in order to even view a pitch. However, I think the bullet points for artists isn’t really the way to go. Five bullet points to convey 10 pages of story is a little rough.
